Committee Involvement

As a true committee-driven Association, MBAC provides numerous opportunities to work with your peers for the betterment of the profession. Whatever your interest, there's a committee that will allow you to share your knowledge and associate with other professionals in your field.

Here is a list of the current MBAC committees:

  • Certified Mortgage Banker  - The committee will identify individuals qualified to apply for CMB.  They will provide mentors for candidates and assist candidates through the requirements.  The committee will promote all the professional designations among MBAC members, especially the Certified Mortgage Banker.
  • Convention - Organize and orchestrate the annual convention of the Association held in the fall of each year.  Work with other committees  to prepare the program and meeting arrangements as necessary.
  • Education - Assess the educational needs of the Association members.  Work closely with other committees to meet the educational needs determined.  Develop Continuing Education Courses to be approved through appropriate  agencies.
  • GSE/FHA/VA  - Schedule and organize at least two (2) seminars each year in addition to FHA and VA training. 
  • Income  Property - Provide timely information and education of Commercial and Income Property Lending.  Collect, evaluate, and disseminate information on financing and investing in income property for the membership.
  • Legislative - NC  - Monitor legislative activity in the state and inform the Association.  Maintain regular communication with each Lobbyist to propose, evaluate, and recommend policies to the Board of Directors with respect to the state legislation.  Act as a liaison with the Legislature to obtain state legislation consistent with Association policies. 
  • Legislative - SC - Monitor legislative activity in the state and inform the Association.  Maintain regular communication with each Lobbyist to propose, evaluate, and recommend policies to the Board of Directors with respect to the state legislation.  Act as a liaison with the Legislature to obtain state legislation consistent with Association policies. 
  • Loan Administration  - Organize and administer Loan Administration seminars and other programs deemed necessary and of benefit to members with Loan Administration Departments. 
  • Long-Range Planning - Assess future needs of the Association.  Organize information on projected needs, coordinate and propose plans for meeting future needs to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and to the Board of Directors.
  • MAC-PAC  - Provide timely information and education to the local associations in connection with the activities of the Political Action Committee.  Work closely with the NC and SC Legislative Committees and the Lobbyists for each state.  Collect contributions to fund financial obligations of the Legislative Committee and Political Action Committee.  Work with local associations on fund raising efforts for the Political Action Committee. 
  • Membership - Recruit and solicit new member firms and individuals. Communicate with existing members in working toward retention.  Evaluate applications for membership for compliance with By-Laws of the Association and make recommendations to the Board.
  • Public Relations - Work closely with the Presidents' Council (local association presidents) to facilitate a grass-roots liaison within the two states.  Select the Association of the Year based on Annual Report criteria detrmined by the committee.  Promote the ethical image of the Association in accordance with By-laws and Code of Ethics.  Communicate activities of the Association including all conferences, seminars, and conventions through new media and printed matrial.  Work to inform the public about the mortgage banking industry.
  • Scholarship & Recognition  (CLICK HERE FOR POPE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION)  (CLICK HERE FOR THE DEE MCCANDLISH SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION)  - Coordinate and promote the MBAC Scholarships among member firms and all colleges and universities in North and South Carolina.  Evaluate candidates for the scholarship and select recipients each year.  The committee is also responsible for the promotion and evaluation of nominations for the Mortgage Banker and Associate/Affiliate Award to be given each year.  The committee will evaluate nominations and select the recipients. 
  • Single-Family  - Organize and administer the Single-Family Conference held each spring.  Determine the areas of mutual interest to members involved in Single-Family mortgage lending.  Maintain close liaison with FHA,VA,FNMA,and FHLMC regional representatives, and state housing finance agencies for the mutual benefit of the mortgage banking industry.
    Sponsorship - Identify potential corporate sponsors for MBAC events. Contact the potential sponsors and solicit sponsorships as proposed by the committee.
    Wholesale/Broker
    - Determine areas of mutual interest for members of the Association and loan sellers and loan purchasers.  Act as a liaison between MBAC and the state Brokers Association to promote common interests and directions.  Develop policy statements concerning the wholesale operating procedures.
